About this role
Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania invites applicants for a STEM Center - STEM-PASS tutor for the BCOR 111 course. This role supports student learning by facilitating a cohesive group study environment and helping students connect big ideas with course concepts. The tutor helps students experience “aha” moments throughout the semester and contributes to a positive, growth-oriented learning culture.
Responsibilities
- Prepare for and facilitate group study sessions and recitations for students in a single instructor’s BCOR 111 course.
- Attend most class times with students or arrange an alternate plan, to stay aligned with current material and student expectations.
- Sit in on class regularly when possible to re-experience the material and understand student needs; typically, two one-hour sessions per week are facilitated, with additional preparation as needed.
- Communicate regularly with faculty and the STEM Center (director, student managers, and staff) to ensure a high-quality student experience.
- Participate in occasional training sessions and attend a weekly team meeting (times will be offered to accommodate schedules).
- Demonstrate reliability by keeping scheduled session hours, while allowing flexible time for paid preparation; ideal for primary employment.
- Collaborate with faculty, STEM Center staff, and other tutors to support student learning and program goals.
Requirements
- Academic qualifications to tutor the course listed in the position title (BCOR 111).
- High GPA and a positive reputation with faculty, with strong interpersonal skills.
- Final instructor approval.
- Preferred: ability to sit in on class at one of the following times: MWF 10:10–11:05, 11:15–12:10, or 12:20–01:15.
- Note: This position is eligible for Federal Work Study preference, though other students may be hired. Prior STEM Center experience and prior application are preferred.
