Station Control Engineer

Your new role comprises of a broad set of skills across observability, protection and control allowing you to both contribute to the specific technical solutions within each of those areas as well as having a holistic understanding of OT be a bridgebuilder for delivering optimised solutions across intercepting disciplines.
Your responsibilities
As our new Control Engineer, you will work on the development and implementation of control philosophies for substations and HV/MV networks. Moreover, your responsibilities will include specifying, designing and applying control and protection solutions for a wide range of complex national and international projects with a strong focus on substations and TSO interfaces. You will contribute across all project phases—from concept development and system studies to specification, design, procurement, testing, and commissioning. The role involves development of open and closed loop control strategies, development of protection philosophy and specification of the required protections and special protection schemes, design of SCADA systems including specification of hardware, protocols and interfaces.
Projects are delivered in close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams in a highly professional and continuously developing environment alongside experienced colleagues.
About your background
- Development of engineering specifications for plant and station control systems for substations in the 30–400 kV range, with a closed-loop control.
- Experience in SCADA, SRO, and network systems, including IEC 61850–based substation automation
- Development of protection philosophies, protection settings, and protection coordination studies for both AC and DC systems
- Design, configure, and maintain station and plant control architectures, including RTUs, PLCs, and protection relays, ensuring reliable integration with primary equipment and SCADA systems.
- Experience applying relevant standards and legislation within SCADA/ICS/DCS and networks, including IEC 62443, NIS2, IEC 61508, ISO/IEC 27001, IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-104 and related frameworks
- Carry out modelling, simulation, and performance studies using PSCAD, PSSE, DIgSILENT PowerFactory and MATLAB/Simulink to support protection and control design, tuning, and verification.
- Perform control and protection testing, validation, and commissioning activities, including configuration, factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), and on-site commissioning.
- Experience with implementing WAMS (Wide Area Monitoring) and WAMPAC (Wide Area Monitoring, Protection, and Control) systems You don’t need to posses all the listed competences on the deep expert level, but a solid knowledge across those disciplines with a deep specialization in some of them is required.
