Standardized Patient (Part-Time)

About the Role The Standardized Patient (SP) is trained to portray patients, family members, or others to allow student learners to practice physical exam skills, history taking, and communication. This is a part-time, as-needed role located at UIW's School of Osteopathic Medicine at Brooks City Base in South San Antonio, TX. SPs are often observed and evaluated by students and faculty, and must maintain a professional demeanor; the SP reports to the Clinical Outreach & Standardized Patient Manager. What You'll Do

• Portray all characteristics of a real patient, simulating the signs and symptoms of particular patient cases.
• Receive and incorporate feedback from facilitators into case simulations for learning purposes.
• Practice case assignments in advance of clinical events.
• Repeatedly simulate the patient case as needed so physical examination maneuvers can be performed by student learners.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
• In-Person Patient Acting: wear a hospital gown with undergarments to simulate a real patient and allow professional physical examination by students and faculty; allow video and audio recordings, as well as live observation through an observation window or video monitor; simulate all aspects of health scenarios, including medical history, affect/behavior, and physical findings in a standardized, accurate, and reliable manner. • Highly dependable and punctual.
• Proficiency in basic computer skills (e.g., submitting electronic time sheets, checking email, and training on web-based software as needed).
• Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures. Nice to Have
• Prior experience as a standardized patient in a medical school environment. Compensation & Benefits
• Salary: $15.30 per hour
