About the Role Toast is seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Full Stack on the Guest team in Bengaluru to help build scalable backend services and AI-powered experiences that connect restaurants with their guests. You will be a technical leader balancing engineering excellence with a strong product mindset to solve for growth in a fast-moving product space.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, deploy, and maintain highly resilient and scalable features
- Lead complex projects that improve functionality and reliability for customers and partners
- Partner with a wide array of teams across Toast
- Ensure quality by building automated testing for changes
- Roll features out to customers and partners, including monitoring for success
- Collaborate with UX and PM on feature definition and design
- Mentor and coach other engineers
What We're Looking For
- 8-12 years experience building backend services and APIs
- Extensive experience with Java or Kotlin, with deep understanding of testing, quality, and best practices
- Experience shipping production services and balancing speed with platform stability and reliability
- Experience building backend services and APIs and scaling distributed systems
- Focused on delivering positive impact for Toast customers
- Enjoys working in a team with a shared code-base
- Excellent cross-team communication on complex technical topics
- Experience building cloud-native systems on AWS
- Experience influencing technical direction across multiple teams
- Interest in applying AI tools to improve products is a plus
