About the Role
Databricks is seeking a Staff Software Engineer - Backend to design, build, and operate microservices powering the Databricks data analytics platform. You will work with product management to prioritize work, own significant components end-to-end, and help scale our backend systems to meet the needs of thousands of customers.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to prioritize, design, implement, test, and operate backend microservices for the Databricks platform and products.
- Write software in Scala/Java; build data pipelines using Apache Spark and Apache Kafka; integrate with third-party applications; and interact with cloud APIs (AWS, Azure, CloudFormation, Terraform).
- Contribute to architecture decisions and own the reliability, security, and performance of services at scale across multiple cloud environments.
- Work within teams such as Data Science and ML Infrastructure, Compute Fabric, Data Plane Storage, Enterprise Platform, Observability, Service Platform, Core Infra.
What We're Looking For
- BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related field; 10+ years of production-level experience in Java, Scala, C++, or similar languages.
- Experience in architecting, developing, deploying, and operating large-scale distributed systems.
- Experience on a SaaS platform or with Service-Oriented Architectures.
- Strong SQL knowledge; experience with software security and handling sensitive data.
- Experience with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP) and with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Comfortable working toward a multi-year vision with incremental deliverables.
Nice to Have
- Experience with ML lifecycle tools such as MLflow.
- Familiarity with large-scale log/telemetry observability.
Compensation & Benefits
- Local Pay Range $192,000—$260,000 USD. The total compensation package may also include eligibility for annual performance bonus, equity, and the benefits listed above.
