About the Role Databricks is expanding its Vancouver R&D presence with a Staff Software Engineer - Backend. Join a mission to build scalable data and AI infrastructure and contribute to backend services that power customers across the platform.
What You'll Do
- Design, implement, and scale backend services for a SaaS data/AI platform in production.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across distributed systems, data modeling, governance, and AI enablement.
- Improve reliability, performance, and security of cloud-based services on AWS/Azure/GCP using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to technical strategy and code quality.
What We're Looking For
- BS (or higher) in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10+ years of production-level experience in Java, Scala, or C++.
- Strong foundation in algorithms and data structures and their real-world use cases.
- Experience developing large-scale distributed systems and SaaS platforms or with Service-Oriented Architectures.
- Experience with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP), Docker, Kubernetes, security, and systems handling sensitive data.
- Good knowledge of SQL.

Compensation & Benefits
- Canada Pay Range $173,400—$238,350 CAD. The total compensation package may include annual performance bonus, equity, and the benefits listed above. Databricks offers comprehensive benefits; region-specific details can be found in our benefits information.
