About this role

About the Role Abbott's Electrophysiology (EP) division seeks a Staff Software Engineer to help design, develop, and deploy software embedded in diagnostic and interventional cardiology devices. You will contribute to the system and software architecture to support development programs and work across the software lifecycle in a highly regulated medical device environment.

What You'll Do

  • Apply solid software design skills to develop medical devices to meet performance requirements and deliver on product development goals within the quality system.
  • Develop requirements specifications, design, implementation and testing of software and embedded software algorithms or/and general Linux applications and GUIs.
  • Participate in all phases of the software lifecycle, including concept development, requirements, design, implementation, and testing.
  • Create and implement software/test plans/protocols and generate test reports to ensure software design meets the specifications and quality system requirements.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including QA, Regulatory Affairs, test engineers, and hardware engineers to ensure software design meets product requirements, including safety, reliability and serviceability.
  • Be creative and innovative in the product development process; make or justify critical technical decisions based on broad investigation and testing.
  • Document and transfer developed solutions to manufacturing for mass production and provide technical support during launch and sustaining development post-launch.

What We're Looking For

  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, or Software Engineering.
  • 10+ years of software engineering design experience.
  • 2-3 years providing technical leadership and mentorship.
  • Experience creating and managing requirements and translating them into architectures and software design.
  • Understanding of medical device requirements and experience in medical device development.
  • Excellent documentation skills in highly regulated development environments.
  • Excellent object-oriented design with modern C++.
  • GUI development experience: Qt/QML.
  • Strong OpenGL (2D/3D) and CUDA or general stream programming concepts.
  • Solid understanding of OpenGL texture mapping.
  • Proficiency with Linux (embedded Linux a plus).
  • Software development through the full product lifecycle.
  • Experience with distributed embedded systems.

Nice to Have

  • Medical device development experience and IEC60601-1, IEC62304 familiarity.
  • Development/Process Tools: MS Visual Studio, Jira, Perforce.
  • Experience addressing cybersecurity concerns in software applications.
  • Experience with Python, XML, XSL, HTML and communication protocols (TCP/IP, UPnP, Web Services, SOAP, CAN).
  • Direct supervisory experience.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base pay: $99,300 – $198,700 per year.
