About the Role Rutgers University Correctional Health Care (UCHC), operating within Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, provides physical, mental health, dental and sex offender treatment services to individuals in New Jersey's criminal justice system. UCHC operates with a total budget of about $150 million and roughly 1,000 staff. This Part-Time Staff Nurse position at New Jersey State Prison in Trenton focuses on ambulatory care as a primary focus for inmates within the correctional setting. What You'll Do
- Provides direct and indirect nursing care to meet physiological and emotional needs of resident-patients including adolescents (13-17 years) and adults (18 to 64 years) and their families within the framework established by the correctional system.
- Performs assessments of resident-patients in a variety of settings such as initial intake area, health care unit for sick call, emergency situations in housing, chronic care clinics and infirmary.
- Works with a variety of health issues within correctional health care, applying the nursing process to deliver care. What We're Looking For
- Knowledge of the nursing process and ability to apply it to direct and indirect nursing care in a correctional health care setting.
- Ability to perform comprehensive assessments across multiple care settings (initial intake, sick call, emergency housing, chronic care clinics, infirmary).
- Comfort working with adolescent and adult inmate populations (ages 13-17 and 18-64) within a correctional system.
- Ability to work effectively in a correctional environment.
