Company Description

We are building a financial operations platform that helps businesses automate complex billing, invoicing, and revenue workflows. The platform processes large volumes of financial data and supports hundreds of customers, including fast-growing technology companies.

As the business scales, infrastructure reliability, security, and operational efficiency are becoming increasingly important. The platform processes approximately one billion invoice items each month, and customer and data volumes are expected to grow two to three times over the next year.

The engineering organization is investing in its next phase of infrastructure maturity. The foundation is already established, but there is an opportunity to strengthen the architecture, improve observability, build stronger security infrastructure, and prepare the platform for significantly greater scale.

This is the first formal Staff-level infrastructure position dedicated to these areas. You will work closely with the VP of Engineering and the existing platform team, taking ownership of foundational infrastructure decisions and helping establish technical direction across the engineering organization.

The team is looking for a hands-on software engineer who has moved into infrastructure or platform engineering and enjoys building systems rather than simply maintaining them. This is an opportunity to take infrastructure from a solid foundation to a highly reliable, secure, and scalable platform.

What You Will Do

Own infrastructure strategy and execution: Take responsibility for improving the company's infrastructure foundation, making architectural decisions, and driving projects from design through production.

Build security infrastructure: Strengthen infrastructure security during your first 90 days, enabling the platform to support more complex enterprise customers and security-sensitive environments.

Redesign cloud architecture: Improve the AWS architecture to support two to three times the current customer and data volume while maintaining reliability and performance.

Lead the infrastructure migration: Drive the transition away from ECS/Fargate toward a Kubernetes-based infrastructure architecture where appropriate.

Own Kubernetes infrastructure: Design, manage, and scale Kubernetes clusters, ensuring that infrastructure remains reliable, maintainable, and efficient as workloads grow.

Build infrastructure as code: Use Terraform to create, standardize, and evolve repeatable infrastructure configurations and deployment workflows.

Own reliability and observability: Establish and improve service-level objectives (SLOs), monitoring, metrics, logs, tracing, alerting, and incident response practices.

Improve incident management: Lead investigations, root-cause analysis, and postmortems to reduce recurring incidents and improve the reliability of production systems.

Write production-quality code: Build automation, infrastructure tooling, and software that reduce manual operational work and lower the risk of infrastructure failures.

Scale the platform from one to ten: Identify infrastructure bottlenecks, improve existing systems, and build the capabilities required to support rapid business growth.

Improve developer productivity: Create better infrastructure workflows, deployment tooling, and platform abstractions that enable engineering teams to ship safely and quickly.

Establish infrastructure standards: Define practical patterns for security, reliability, observability, deployment, and infrastructure management across engineering.

Work closely with engineering leadership: Partner with the VP of Engineering and the platform team to set infrastructure priorities and guide technical decisions across the organization.

Collaborate across engineering: Work with application and backend engineers to ensure infrastructure decisions support real product needs and customer requirements.

Balance reliability with speed: Make pragmatic decisions that improve infrastructure quality without introducing unnecessary complexity or slowing down product development.

Ideal Candidate Background

Required Experience

8+ years of software engineering or closely related infrastructure engineering experience. Candidates with approximately 6+ years at particularly strong engineering organizations may be considered based on the depth of their experience.

A strong software engineering background, ideally followed by a move into platform or infrastructure engineering.

Hands-on production experience with Terraform and Kubernetes.

Strong experience working with AWS or comparable cloud infrastructure, with AWS strongly preferred.

Experience managing Kubernetes clusters at a scale ranging from a few clusters to a couple hundred clusters.

A track record of building infrastructure from scratch or scaling an existing platform from an early stage to a substantially larger production environment.

Experience at a high-growth Series A–C startup.

Ability to write production-quality code and automation rather than relying exclusively on configuration and operational maintenance.

Experience improving infrastructure reliability, scalability, security, or observability.

Working knowledge of information security and practical infrastructure security controls.

Ability to take ownership of technically complex projects and drive them independently.

Strong judgment around infrastructure architecture, trade-offs, reliability, and operational risk.

Willingness to work on-site in SoHo, New York City, four to five days per week.

Technical Skills

AWS: Experience designing, deploying, and operating production cloud infrastructure.

Kubernetes: Hands-on experience managing production clusters, scaling workloads, and improving cluster reliability.

Terraform: Experience building and maintaining infrastructure as code and managing repeatable cloud configurations.

Docker: Experience building and operating containerized applications and workloads.

Helm: Familiarity with Helm charts and Kubernetes application deployment.

Infrastructure architecture: Ability to design cloud infrastructure that supports growth, reliability, and operational efficiency.

Security: Working knowledge of infrastructure security, access controls, secure configurations, and risk reduction.

Observability: Experience with metrics, logs, distributed tracing, alerting, and production monitoring.

Reliability engineering: Understanding of SLOs, incident response, root-cause analysis, and postmortems.

Software engineering: Experience writing production code in a modern programming language.

TypeScript: Preferred experience building infrastructure tools, automation, or production services.

Python, Rust, or Java: Relevant alternatives for hands-on software development.

CI/CD: Experience with continuous integration, deployment automation, and tools such as GitHub Actions.

ECS/Fargate: Experience with container-based cloud deployments is useful, particularly when evaluating migration or modernization work.

Distributed systems: Understanding of service dependencies, failure modes, scaling, and reliability in production systems.

Infrastructure automation: Ability to eliminate repetitive manual work through software and automation.

Preferred Background

Experience at a high-growth Series A–C startup where infrastructure had to evolve quickly as the business scaled.

Experience building infrastructure from an early foundation rather than only operating mature systems.

Experience leading infrastructure modernization or cloud architecture migrations.

Experience moving workloads between cloud compute or orchestration platforms.
