Job title: Staff Engineer, Firmware Development
About the Role Staff Engineer, Firmware Development will contribute to embedded firmware and hardware lab operations, enabling automated testing, builds, and reliable device validation in a fast-paced lab environment.
What You'll Do
- Work on-site in the hardware lab to support embedded CI activities
- Maintain, manage, and organize PCBs/boards used by Dev and QA teams
- Perform board bring-up, flashing, validation, and troubleshooting
- Track board inventory, revisions, failures, and repair status
- Develop and maintain Python-based automation for testing, flashing, diagnostics, and monitoring
- Automate firmware builds, deployment, validation, and regression workflows
- Identify and distinguish issues across hardware, firmware, OS, and interfaces
- Coordinate with hardware, firmware, QA, and DevOps teams for issue resolution
- Support CI/CD pipelines and automated release validation for embedded software
- Ensure lab safety, board handling best practices, and ESD compliance
What We're Looking For
- 4–6 years of experience in Embedded Systems operations or support roles
- Strong Python / Bash scripting skills with hands-on automation experience
- Practical experience working in an embedded hardware lab environment
- Hands-on exposure to PCB/board bring-up, flashing, and debugging
- Experience with Linux systems (OS installations, Raspberry Pi image install)
- Experience using Git and version control systems
- Basic networking and security knowledge for embedded devices
- Bachelor in Electronics or Computer Systems Engineering; Master and above preferred
- Good communication skills in English and Japanese
Nice to Have
- Exposure to CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub)
- Knowledge of communication protocols: UART, Ethernet
- Experience with Python test frameworks (PyTest)
- Understanding hardware schematics and board-level components
