About the Role The role focuses on developing robust process machine systems that provide Corning with a competitive advantage by enabling new products and product lines, from prototype to production. This position supports multiple divisions within Corning's Manufacturing, Technology and Engineering (MTE) organization. What You'll Do
- Develop and deliver first/next generation process machine systems through early innovation into manufacturing.
- Apply mechanical design skills with broad knowledge of materials, fabrication methods (machining, forming, molding, etc.), assembly and joining methods, GD&T, tolerance stackups.
- Knowledge of machine components such as slides, spindles, conveyance, handling and fixturing is desired.
- Demonstrate strong engineering fundamentals and translate them into successful designs.
- Propose, invent, apply, develop, or extend state-of-the-art technology.
- Use 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks preferred) and simulation (FEA, CFD) to optimize designs and prove feasibility.
- Work effectively in ambiguous environments.
- Integrate commercially available technologies such as robotics, additive/subtractive processes, dispensing, and automation into robust process manufacturing solutions.
- Leverage external machine builders and system integrators for detail design, build, and integration in later stages.
- Apply data-driven problem solving and decision making; communicate status and resource needs clearly.
- Influence peers, teams, and management; provide technical guidance.
- Create objectives and apply creative approaches to support projects or create opportunities.
- Utilize internal lab facilities to develop proof-of-concept prototypes. What We're Looking For
- Education: Mechanical, Mechatronics or similar Engineering (B.S. minimum); 5+ years engineering experience; 10+ years preferred.
- Demonstrated project leadership experience with results achieved through matrixed teams.
- Ability to clearly communicate technical content to broad audiences; provide concise strategies, resource needs, and status updates.
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Experience integrating and applying robotics, automation, and related technologies in manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes and fundamentals of engineering.
- Proactive, collaborative, and able to work across diverse teams.
- Nice to have: Technical experience in a Corning division (as partially suggested in the posting); knowledge of machine components (slides, spindles, conveyance, handling, fixturing). Nice to Have
