Staff Accountant
We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to provide essential accounting support for an engineering organization in Madison, Wisconsin. This long-term contract position focuses on maintaining accurate financial records, supporting daily accounting operations, and helping ensure timely completion of reconciliations and tax-related activities. Responsibilities
- Manage daily accounting activities by recording financial transactions and keeping the general ledger accurate and up to date.
- Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation to maintain reliable financial records.
- Perform account reconciliations regularly, investigate discrepancies, and resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Support corporate tax and sales tax processes by organizing data, reviewing filings, and helping maintain compliance.
- Assist with preparation of corporate tax return information and related accounting schedules.
- Contribute accounting support during organizational system implementation efforts while maintaining continuity in day-to-day financial operations.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather financial information and improve the accuracy of reporting and account analysis.
Requirements
- Experience in staff accounting or a similar accounting role supporting day-to-day financial operations.
- Knowledge of general ledger accounting and preparation of journal entries.
- Hands-on experience completing account reconciliations and researching variances.
- Familiarity with corporate tax, including support for corporate tax return preparation.
- Understanding of sales tax processes and related compliance requirements.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple accounting tasks accurately.
- Proficiency in working with accounting systems and spreadsheet-based financial analysis.
