Staff Accountant
We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join a team in San Francisco, California on a short-term Contract assignment expected to last 4 to 6 weeks. This role will provide hands-on accounting support during a busy period, with a focus on strengthening close activities, maintaining accurate financial records, and assisting with audit-related needs. The ideal candidate brings practical experience in core accounting operations and can step in quickly to deliver reliable results in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Support year-end close activities by preparing entries, organizing account activity, and helping ensure timely completion of deliverables.
- Perform detailed bank and balance sheet reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and resolve outstanding items promptly.
- Assist with audit preparation by gathering documentation, validating financial data, and responding to requests from internal or external stakeholders.
- Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate support to maintain accuracy across the general ledger.
- Review general ledger activity to identify inconsistencies, correct errors, and improve the quality of financial reporting.
- Contribute to corporate tax and sales tax support tasks, including compiling schedules and maintaining organized records for filings.
- Provide short-term accounting coverage and adapt quickly to shifting priorities while maintaining strong attention to detail.
Qualifications

At least 2 years of accounting experience in a staff accountant or similar role.

Demonstrated experience with bank reconciliations, account reconciliations, and year-end close support.

Working knowledge of journal entry preparation and general ledger maintenance.

Familiarity with corporate tax processes, including support for corporate tax return activities.

Understanding of sales tax reporting and related accounting documentation.

Ability to manage a short-term workload independently and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

Strong analytical skills, accuracy, and attention to detail in financial recordkeeping.
