About this role
Job title: Sr Software Engineer, Infrastructure
About the Role Databricks Information Technology is a product-led organization focused on delivering scalable IT services and applications. As a Senior Software Engineer (Infrastructure), you will be a core technical contributor on the IT Infrastructure team, owning and evolving our core infrastructure and observability platforms. The role requires a strong software engineering mindset and breadth across SRE and infrastructure to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions for currently "immature" system problems. You will build resilient, automated infrastructure that empowers development teams and bridge software engineering with systems architecture to keep our AWS environment cost-optimized, secure, and highly available.
What You'll Do
- Architect and deploy production-grade infrastructure on AWS using Terraform or Pulumi.
- Orchestrate containerized workloads with AKS or EKS, focusing on cluster security and resource efficiency.
- Architect robust CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, managing both GitHub-hosted and self-hosted runners.
- Drive an "Observable by Default" framework by building underlying infrastructure that ensures new internal applications have logging and metrics enabled by default.
- Build internal CLI tools, AI plugins, and automation scripts to streamline developer workflows and improve operational efficiency.
- Partner cross-functionally with Security, Engineering, Infrastructure, and Support to deliver impactful projects with real business outcomes.
- Mentor and document: participate in code reviews, document solutions and failure triage playbooks, and mentor junior engineers on the platforms you own.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of production-level experience with a strong proficiency in Python.
- Expert-level IaC experience in Terraform (modules, state management) or Pulumi.
- Hands-on experience with AWS (or Azure/GCP), Kubernetes, and Docker.
- Automation & Integration mindset with experience building and troubleshooting integrations between infrastructure, data pipelines, and observability platforms.
- Advanced knowledge of GitHub Actions and GitHub Runners.
- Strong observability mindset with experience in logging, metrics, tracing, using tools like Datadog, Prometheus, or ELK.
- Distributed Systems experience with Kafka or other messaging queues.
- Independent execution: ability to operate with minimal guidance and own ambiguous projects guided by tech leads.
Compensation & Benefits
- Zone 1 Pay Range: USD 159,900 — 219,900 per year.
- Total compensation may include annual performance bonus, equity, and the listed benefits.
- Databricks offers comprehensive benefits; details vary by region.
