Job title: Sr. Scientist - Histology Lab Manager

About the Role Cape Fox Facilities Services (CFFS) is seeking an experienced Histology Lab Manager to support NIH. The role leads histology professionals in animal study workflows, necropsies, and histology slide preparation, and oversees digital pathology database management in a BSL-4 setting.

What You'll Do

  • Lead a team of histology professionals under the Federal Task Leader to support facility pathologists in necropsies and histology slide preparation.
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues related to laboratory methodology and instrumentation under the direction of the Senior Veterinary Pathologist.
  • Oversee organization and management of the digital pathology database.
  • Schedule staff for necropsies and histology work; operate in a BSL-4 laboratory; perform histology, immunohistochemistry, and in situ hybridization protocols.
  • Develop and optimize new protocols to support research staff as requested by the Senior Pathologist.
  • Assist pathologists during necropsy.
  • Travel 0-10% as required; undergo NIH/HHS required training for IRF BSL2/BSL4 access; maintain flexibility for scheduling, including potential weekends/holidays.
  • Work up to 40 hours per week with potential telework if approved by the Task Leader, COR, and Contracting Officer.

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 5 years histology experience with Histotechnologist (HTL) certification.
  • Previous recent BSL-3 or BSL-4 experience preferred; ability to work in a BSL-4 setting with select agents.
  • Enrollment in the NIAID-IRF Frederick Biosurety program with passing and maintaining Tier-III security clearance.
  • Strong problem-solving, leadership, and scheduling abilities; readiness to work in high-containment laboratory settings.

Nice to Have

  • BSL-3/BSL-4 experience (preferred).
  • Experience with digital pathology databases.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly pay of $70.82 for up to 40 hours per week (exempt).
