Job title: Sr. Off-road Development Engineer
About the Role Senior Off-road Development Engineer focusing on off-road software value-added feature calibration and ownership. Organize and own the off-road and traction performance development for North American market Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis vehicles, contributing to longitudinal traction performance development through AWD and PE system calibration and developing/validating hardware needed to achieve off-road performance targets for each vehicle program in North America.
The group tests, calibrates, and develops off-road and traction performance to align with Hyundai Motor Group's goal of delivering best-in-class vehicles for North American customers through regional technical leadership and global collaboration.
What You'll Do
- Schedule and calibrate the off-road and traction performance development group for testing, development, and calibration of vehicle-integrated off-road and AWD performance across weather, road, and terrain conditions in North America.
- Lead off-road performance integration and optimization; drive traction performance hardware/software development for AWD and driveline; support BEV multi-motor PE traction development.
- Develop and validate off-road related hardware specifications (Protection/Safety/Suspension/Tire/Brake/Body and Structure).
- Produce high-quality software calibrations for off-road and traction performance, including traction control, AWD, and other value-added features.
- Understand the off-road/trail market and customer expectations to identify areas for improvement.
- Organize and work independently to perform calibrations, meet deadlines, and achieve performance targets.
- Plan and manage engineering resources including assets, vehicles, calibration reports, software updates, and support vehicles.
- Conduct vehicle test events including proving grounds, off-road venues, and cross-functional seasonal tests (hot/cold).
- Stay current on competitors’ AWD and slip-control technologies.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams such as chassis, powertrain, and software to ensure seamless integration of off-road and traction features.
- Work with suppliers and partners (external and internal) for hardware/software development alignment.
- Facilitate regular meetings and coordinate professionally with a positive attitude.
- Collaborate and share knowledge across the division and with counterparts in R&D Headquarters in Korea.
- Manage creation and presentation of clear and concise project status and technical reports.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field of study.
