Purpose of the Position: The Sr. Mechanical Facilities Engineer will be responsible for leading the reliability, maintenance, operation, and continuous improvement of mechanical systems within the facility, including HVAC, plumbing, piping, utilities, recycling, and process-support equipment. This role will ensure the safe, efficient, reliable, and compliant operation of critical facilities infrastructure supporting manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical engineering background, extensive industrial facilities experience and demonstrated ability to lead maintenance and capital improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the mechanical subject-matter expert for facilities equipment, providing technical guidance to Skilled Trades, maintenance supervision, operations, engineering, and external contractors.
  • Team up with Skilled Trades and supervision on system reliability, maintenance optimization, root-cause analysis, and equipment improvement initiatives.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance plans for mechanical systems to reduce downtime, improve asset reliability, and extend equipment life.
  • Establish equipment criticality rankings, maintenance strategies, standard operating procedures, job plans, and recommended spare-parts inventories for critical facilities assets.
  • Support maintenance planning and scheduling by ensuring work orders, maintenance procedures, equipment documentation, and parts requirements are accurate and available within the CMMS.
  • Conduct regular inspections, performance assessments, and reliability reviews to ensure systems operate efficiently and comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for recurring equipment failures, mechanical system issues, and unplanned downtime; recommend and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Oversee the installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and optimization of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, piping, pumps, compressed air, vacuum systems, water systems, recycling systems, and process-support equipment.
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, Skilled Trades, and internal teams to complete mechanical system repairs, upgrades, shutdown work, and capital projects safely and effectively.
  • Support planning and execution of planned outages, equipment shutdowns, turnarounds, and emergency repairs to minimize disruption to facility and production operations.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support facility projects, expansions, utility upgrades, equipment installations, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Review mechanical designs, drawings, specifications, and contractor proposals to ensure maintainability, reliability, safety, code compliance, and alignment with facility standards.
  • Monitor energy consumption, utility usage, and equipment performance; identify and recommend cost-effective solutions to improve energy efficiency, system capacity, and sustainability.
  • Ensure all mechanical systems comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, building codes, and applicable engineering standards.
  • Support management-of-change activities for mechanical system modifications, ensuring documentation, risk reviews, training, and maintenance requirements are completed prior to implementation.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of mechanical systems, including equipment manuals, P&IDs, drawings, maintenance logs, system operating procedures, compliance reports, and asset records.
  • Participate in emergency response activities related to mechanical system failures, utility interruptions, environmental events, and other facilities emergencies.
  • Provide technical mentoring, coaching, and knowledge transfer to junior engineers, maintenance personnel, and operations teams.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in mechanical engineering, facilities reliability, maintenance, and energy management.
