About the Role Sr Manager – Media Data Ops at Amgen leads the BI and Data Engineering strategy for MSO, aligning data ingestion, transformation, and dashboard consumption to enable data-driven decisions. The role provides senior leadership across data engineering, BI delivery, and governance, ensuring scalable, reliable data foundations and business-ready insights. What You'll Do
- Set BI & Data Engineering Strategy and Direction: Define and own the integrated BI and Data Engineering strategy for MSO, establish long-term roadmaps for data backbone and BI products; act as senior authority on data-to-decision enablement.
- Lead BI Delivery, Design, and Business Translation: Oversee BI delivery across MSO (e.g., ELL, Media Goals, HCP/DTC Trackers, Web and Competitive Intelligence dashboards). Ensure mockup-driven design practices; translate business questions into dashboard designs and build-ready specifications. Guide teams in strengthening business logic understanding, KPI interpretation, and narrative framing behind dashboards. Lead and/or sponsor executive- and brand-level dashboard readouts.
- Own Data Engineering Excellence & Platform Reliability: Provide senior oversight of MSO’s data engineering foundation, including ingestion (file-based and API-driven), transformation, DQM, and BI-ready aggregation layers. Establish and enforce data engineering best practices (scalable pipeline patterns, testing, observability, recovery, and documentation). Ensure operational excellence across Databricks/S3 pipelines powering BI, web analytics, and 3rd-party competitive datasets. Ensure quality control and release readiness. Own operational health of MSO ingestion and processing—logging, monitoring, DQM validation, publish/stitch status tracking, and automated notifications when feeds or taxonomy inputs fail. Own release operationalization by maintaining runbooks, validation notebooks/checklists, and production observability artifacts (ingestion logs, error traces, alert routing) so deployments are traceable, recoverable, and supportable.
- Drive Agile Ops, Governance, and Predictable Delivery: Own MSO’s Agile operating model across BI and Data Engineering, ensuring clear backlogs, prioritization, sprint discipline, and dependency management. Establish delivery governance that enables predictable releases, transparent trade-offs, and proactive risk management. Ensure strong KPI traceability, documentation standards, and release discipline across all BI and data assets.
- Executive Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Leadership: Serve as a senior leader and escalation point across MIO, brand teams, Deci What We're Looking For
- Proven leadership in BI and Data Engineering across complex data ecosystems with ability to translate business questions into data solutions.
- Deep experience with data ingestion, transformation, DQM, and BI-ready data models; hands-on familiarity with Databricks and S3.
- Track record delivering dashboards and executive-level readouts; strong storytelling, KPI interpretation, and narrative framing.
- Strong program management, stakeholder management, and governance capabilities; experience with Agile/DevOps practices and release discipline.
- Ability to operate effectively in cross-functional, multi-stakeholder environments and to lead in a healthcare analytics context.
- Experience working with MSO or media analytics domains (e.g., ELL, Media Goals, HCP/DTC Trackers, Web analytics) is a plus. Compensation & Benefits
