Sr. Manager, Data Science (Product & Engineering)

Sr. Manager, Data Science (Product & Engineering) at Chamberlain Group, Oak Brook, IL, is a hands-on leadership role that partners with business leaders to identify opportunities where innovative data science techniques can drive significant business value. You will lead, manage, and coach a team of data scientists in the design, development, and deployment of solutions that support the company’s transformation and rapid growth. The position has high visibility and directly influences senior leaders and business outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Build relationships with business leaders to understand strategy, initiatives, and KPIs, taking shared ownership for achieving goals.
• Lead, manage, and coach highly technical data scientists, including recruiting and onboarding new talent.
• Drive development and execution of the data science methodology and practices strategy.
• Lead technical engagements with business units, functions, and senior leaders.
• Act as a catalyst for advanced analytics and data science across Chamberlain Group.
• Educate business users on advanced analytical concepts.
• Collaborate with teams to drive adoption of insights, models, and outputs, and realize incremental impact.
• Identify and apply innovative analytical techniques to achieve business objectives.
• Lead and participate in the design, development, and deployment of advanced analytics models and solutions, including predictive and prescriptive outputs, to enable data-driven decision making.
• Manage relationships with outside data science resources and vendors.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety guidelines; managers should enforce compliance within their teams.
• Protect Chamberlain Group’s reputation by maintaining information confidentiality.
• Maintain professional knowledge through workshops, publications, networking, and professional societies.
• Contribute to team efforts by completing related tasks and participating in projects as needed.
• Motivate and lead a high-performance team; drive performance management and compensation processes; maintain transparent communication and foster a workplace culture aligned with the company mission, vision, and values.

Requirements

• Education: Master’s degree in data science, statistics, mathematics, econometrics, engineering, or another quantitative field.
• Experience: 8+ years of relevant work experience; 2+ years directly managing data scientists.
• Knowledge, skills, and abilities: Expert knowledge of statistics and advanced analytical and machine learning techniques (forecasting, predictive modeling, network and cluster analysis); ability to distill complex business problems into actionable data science solutions; proven ability to drive teams to success and influence stakeholders; expertise in designing, developing, and applying machine learning algorithms; exceptional problem-solving and analytical thinking; outstanding communication, teamwork, and attention to detail; advanced proficiency in Python, R, and SQL.
• Experience with data science tools and cloud/compute: familiarity with tools such as Databricks; distributed compute; handling large-scale data; scaling analytics in the cloud (e.g., Azure).
• Preferred qualifications: Doctorate degree in a quantitative field; experience leading end-to-end data science project implementations using Agile methodologies; experience in analytical consulting roles.
