How you'll help us Keep Climbing (overview & key responsibilities)

Component Engineering is seeking a driven, self-starting Senior Engineer to join the Avionics team. This team provides engineering support to seven Avionics shops within Component Maintenance, helping the operation respond quickly to constraints, improve component-level reliability, and deliver cost-saving product improvements that strengthen Delta’s bottom line. In this role, the successful candidate will partner closely with Component Maintenance, Materials, Supply Chain, MRO, and other engineering teams to provide timely technical support, advance reliability initiatives that improve operational and mechanical performance, and develop practical solutions that enhance cost, quality, and turnaround time for our component-level parts.

  • Practice safety-conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures.
  • Develop and implement complex repairs for aircraft components.
  • Issue engineering paperwork in the form of ER/As, PRIs, Drawings, etc. to support component-level work.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable FAA, DOT, OSHA and EPA regulations, foreign regulatory requirements and Delta's Technical Operations Policy and Procedures (TOPP) and all other engineering processes.
  • Coordinate and contribute to process improvements to increase enterprise effectiveness.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving product improvements, including but not limited to Owner-Operator Produced Parts (OOPPs), typical repairs, alternate testing procedures, etc.
  • Conduct reliability reviews for component-level reliability drivers, and partner with Fleet, Propulsion, and Cabin Engineering teams to implement reliability improvements initiatives.
  • Perform Component Alert Management System (CAMS) investigations and provide dispositions for underperforming components.
  • Regularly visit assigned component shops and attend daily shop GEMBA meetings.

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)

  • Is at least 18 years of age and has authorization to work in the United States.
  • Possesses a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency.
  • Embraces diverse people, thinking, and styles.
  • Consistently prioritizes safety and security of self, others, and personal data.
  • A four-year accredited undergraduate engineering degree (Aeronautical/Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, etc.) required. On a case-by-case basis, consideration for experience can replace an engineering degree.
  • Internal candidates must be performing satisfactorily in current position.
  • Internal candidates with grade levels above the existing job posting should contact the hiring manager. Candidate will be considered for a grade 6 Engineer position if they do not meet grade 7 Senior Engineer requirements.
  • Must be willing to travel as required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with all levels of maintenance and engineering.

What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications)

  • Familiarity with airline operations and support systems.
  • Familiarity with CFR's and DOT regulations pertaining to aircraft cabin certification.
  • Familiarity with use of Aircraft Technical Manuals (AMM, CMM, IPCs, WDMs, etc.)
  • Familiarity with application of Safety Risk Management in technical applications is desired.
