About this role

Job title: Sr Electrical Engineer - Embedded Hardware

About the Role The Senior Electrical Engineer – Embedded Hardware will design, adapt, and troubleshoot embedded communications circuits for performance, cost, and manufacturability. Hardware includes MCUs, antenna tuning, filters, low-noise amplifiers, transmit amplifiers, transceivers, and low noise power supplies. Lead MCU selection/evaluation, product regulations, and collaborate with project teams to drive new intelligent features for power tools.

What You'll Do

  • Mentor junior engineers on best practices: task management, Gantt charts, root cause analysis, circuit/PCB design, PCBA manufacturing.
  • Design, prototype, test, and troubleshoot hardware for communications applications at a platform level to meet Milwaukee Tool’s needs.
  • Design and qualify new designs to regulatory standards (FCC, IC, CE, UL, Bluetooth, NFC).
  • Lead technology investigations, define system requirements, future architectures, and reusability strategies.
  • Work with marketing, project leadership, and product owners to add new communications features for next-gen power tools (wired and wireless).
  • Use lab equipment: network analyzers, power analyzers, spectrum analyzers, protocol analyzers, oscilloscopes, DAQ systems.
  • Lead test plan/procedure development for embedded systems and subsystems.
  • Make minor firmware modifications to generate/adjust prototypes.
  • Communicate effectively across teams; drive tradeoff discussions and project urgency to meet metrics.

What We're Looking For

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years embedded systems experience, including MCU selection/evaluation.
  • Understanding of digital circuits and firmware-electronics interaction in a communications system.
  • Ability to realize component-level design and test for signal integrity.
  • Familiarity with schematic capture, PCB layout software, and industry best practices.
  • Proficiency in creating subsystem and component-level design requirements.
  • Proficiency with standard lab equipment and specialized communication test equipment.
  • Self-motivated, organized, efficient, process-oriented with strong work ethic.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills; able to exercise independent judgment and work under pressure.
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time (domestic and international).

Nice to Have

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
  • Working knowledge of Python or C++.
  • Familiarity with wireless regulatory certification standards (FCC, IC, CE).
  • Knowledge of Bluetooth Low Energy protocols; understanding power management and ultra-low-power embedded hardware/firmware implementations.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Robust health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Generous 401(k) savings plan.
  • Education assistance.
