About the Role Databricks is seeking a Senior Counsel, Regulatory to lead its response to evolving global regulatory landscapes outside privacy and export controls. Sitting on the Corporate Legal team, this role will build and own a cross-functional regulatory practice, providing business-focused legal advice to stakeholders across Engineering, Product, Security, and GTM teams across locations. The ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment and excels at building relationships.
What You'll Do
- Serve as primary internal subject matter expert on emerging global regulatory frameworks outside privacy/export controls (DORA, NIS-2, EU Data Act, EU AI Act, CRA, DMA, DSA) and various antitrust/payments regimes.
- Lead strategic implementation of regulatory requirements; own centralized regulatory roadmap, triage process, incident response playbooks.
- Partner with Engineering, Product, Security to embed regulatory compliance by design into Data Intelligence Platform, Lakehouse, and AI workflows; provide early visibility into blockers.
- Collaborate with Product Legal, Commercial Legal, GTM Legal to unblock high-stakes enterprise deals; draft negotiation fallbacks; build scalable, customer-facing collateral.
- Act as regulatory point of contact on calls for highly regulated customers (financial services/public sector); implement new playbooks to maintain deal velocity.
- Work with Corporate Operations to operationalize regulatory compliance controls bridging legal advice and business execution.
- Support international expansion: navigate local AI and data regulations, prep for EU data sovereignty.
- Stay current on developments; lead OKRs to improve and scale regulatory processes.
- Build relationships across geographies to ensure effective communication.
What We're Looking For
- At least 8 years at a top law firm or in-house with focus on technology/regulatory.
- J.D. from top-tier law school; member of state bar in good standing (U.S. candidates).
- Experience advising on global data/digital/tech regulation; familiarity with EU AI Act, EU Data Act, DORA, NIS-2, DSA, DMA or analogous regimes strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting SaaS, cloud, or data-platform products; comfortable partnering with Engineering, Product, Security to operationalize regulatory requirements.
- Experience supporting commercial and go-to-market teams in customer-facing negotiations with enterprise customers in highly regulated sectors.
- Ability to understand complex issues, assess risk, provide concise, actionable business-focused legal advice.
- Ability to build relationships across geographies; coordinate deadlines; fast-paced environment.
- Self-starter; able to operate independently and interact with senior management.
- Strong work ethic, organizational skills; manage multiple cross-functional projects with minimal supervision.
Compensation & Benefits
- Zone 2 Pay Range $197,800—$272,050 USD.
