Job title: Sr Cloud Engineer

About the Role Senior Cloud Engineer responsible for guiding Workday’s cloud adoption strategy and leading the technical aspects of migrating applications and infrastructure to the Public Cloud. You will shape cloud best practices, implement automated, scalable solutions, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. Security, governance, and on-site presence in the DMV area may be required for U.S. Federal contracts. What You'll Do

• Cloud Strategy and Architecture: Develop a comprehensive cloud strategy aligned with the company’s objectives, and design cloud-based solutions that meet security, scalability, reliability, and performance requirements.
• Cloud Migration and Deployment: Collaborate with application teams to assess cloud readiness and automate deployment processes, ensuring consistent provisioning.
• Cloud Governance and Security: Establish governance policies and best practices, implement robust security measures, and ensure regulatory alignment.
• Performance and Cost Management: Continuously monitor and optimize cloud resources, identify cost-saving opportunities, and drive efficiency.
• Technical Leadership and Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to cloud engineers; foster a culture of innovation and learning.
• Vendor Management and Collaboration: Work with cloud service providers and third-party vendors to apply their tools and expertise effectively. What We're Looking For
• Basic Qualifications: 8+ years hands-on experience with one or more of AWS or GCP; 5+ years Linux; 8+ years experience in Ruby, Go, or Python; 8+ years delivering Infrastructure-as-code with Terraform or Ansible.
• Security clearance: May require TS/SCI w/CI Poly; applicants must be able to obtain/maintain a U.S. government clearance; active TS/SCI w/CI Poly is preferred.
• Other Qualifications: Experience building public cloud solutions for scalable, reliable web-scale applications; Designing CI/CD pipelines (Git, ArgoCD) and IaC practices; familiarity with RESTful services, SOA, distributed systems, and microservices; proven track record leading cloud transformation; strong cloud architecture and security understanding; IaC proficiency; containerization with Docker and Kubernetes; ability to design and analyze algorithms to solve complex problems and optimize business. Nice to Have
• Experience building public cloud solutions (AWS or GCP) for web-scale apps.
• Proficiency in CI/CD tooling (Git, ArgoCD) and IaC best practices.
• Experience with RESTful, distributed systems, and microservices; strong communication abilities.
• Track record of leading cloud transformation initiatives for large-scale enterprises.
• Proficiency in Terraform or CloudFormation; containerization with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and ability to design efficient algorithms for business optimization.
