Sr Associate, Payroll Tax and Services

The Tax Processor 2 role is a developing position within our Tax Processing function, responsible for independently handling a queue of general and routine tax processing cases under moderate supervision. This role builds toward specialization while supporting accurate and timely tax compliance for millions of customers across our platforms.
Responsibilities
- Preparation and submission of tax forms and amendments according to federal, state, and local requirements
- Execute tax processing activities — including payroll tax filings, reconciliations, and compliance submissions — independently for recurring, established case types, under moderate supervision
- Resolve routine-to-moderate-complexity tax notices and penalty inquiries using established regulatory guidance, escalating cases that require specialized interpretation
- Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual tax reconciliations, identifying discrepancies and routing non-routine findings to a Tax Processor 3 or above for review
- Examine payroll records within own caseload for proper tax treatment and compliance with applicable laws
- Respond to tax-related inquiries from customers and internal teams, explaining standard filing requirements and processes within established communication protocols
- Interact with peers in other departments (payroll operations, customer support) to coordinate resolution of specific, non-escalated cases
- Flag recurring process friction or documentation gaps to senior Tax Processors or leadership, without owning the redesign (see Discussion Point 6)
- Support onboarding of new Tax Processor 1s by answering procedural questions, without formal mentoring responsibility (see Discussion Point 5)
Qualifications

Typically 1+ years of relevant experience in payroll operations, accounting, or a related field

Bachelor's degree, professional certification, or equivalent domain experience

Working knowledge of tax regulations, compliance requirements, and government agency filing systems within core specialization

Ability to work independently on recurring tasks while recognizing when to escalate non-routine cases

Proficiency with accounting principles, financial reconciliation, and tax software applications

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail across a high-volume caseload

Effective written and verbal communication skills, able to explain standard filing requirements to customers and peers

Developing expertise in a tax specialization, building toward independent handling of non-routine cases
