Job title: Specimen Processing Technician (Per Diem)
About the Role Dana-Farber Cancer Institute seeks a Specimen Processing Technician I to process, distribute, and ensure quality for patient specimens, providing accurate information to providers and staff. This onsite per diem role supports lab operations and patient care in Boston, MA.
What You'll Do
- Perform pre-analytic specimen processing: receive specimens, verify labeling, store and transport per procedures, and preserve specimen integrity.
- Unload/load pneumatic tube system; distribute specimens; conduct routine and stat delivery runs; pickup from DFCI clinics.
- Enter receipts into LIS by scanning barcodes or manual entry; verify labels and address discrepancies per policy.
- Document cancellations in LIS; contact providers or reference labs regarding order/specimen discrepancies.
- Process add-on tests and tests sent to reference laboratories; communicate with reference labs as needed.
- Prepare specimens using pre-analytic automation or centrifugation, aliquoting, storing, and shipping per test requirements.
- Perform quality checks before dispensing to the performing lab; respond to inquiries from providers and caregivers.
- Utilize electronic systems for faxed results from reference labs; review pending lists and address discrepancies.
- Process bone marrow orders and specimens; perform other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- High School diploma required; AS or BS in a physical science preferred.
- 0 years’ experience required; experience in a healthcare or laboratory setting preferred.
- Knowledge of LIS and lab safety; familiarity with DOT shipping regulations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; customer service orientation.
- Basic computer literacy and ability to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment; multitasking capability.

Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $37,800.00 - $41,500.00 per year (USD)
- Location: Onsite at 450 Brookline Ave, Boston, MA 02215
- Per diem/part-time role with potential for additional shifts as needed
