About the Role As a Canadian Customs Specialist at Nova Bus (AB Volvo), you will act as the customs expert to ensure import/export operations comply with regulations, minimize financial risk, and support internal and external stakeholders by standardizing and updating processes.
What You'll Do
- Responsible for Harmonized System tariff classification.
- Stay current on customs regulations and provide guidelines to ensure logistics compliance.
- Lead and coordinate activities in support of: FTA programs, B2 adjustment requests, government agency partners, regulatory compliance projects, reconciliation, and special projects.
- Develop import/export procedures.
- Conduct post-verification of customs documents.
- Ensure customs compliance of imports and exports.
- Perform internal audits to ensure customs compliance.
- Define performance indicators and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Act as primary contact with the Canada Border Services Agency and other government departments as needed.
- Drive continuous improvement and perform other related tasks.
What We're Looking For
- University degree in a relevant field and/or Certified Customs Specialist.
- Five years of experience in import management and collaboration with the Canada Border Services Agency and customs brokers (including Ontario-based brokers).
- Bilingual in English and French for communication with brokers.
- Knowledge of the ASFC GCRA system and related requirements.
- Strong communicator who values collaboration and teamwork.
- Sense of urgency and solid time-management/prioritization skills.
- Organized, results-oriented, with strong analytical thinking.
- Autonomy, resourcefulness, integrity, and data accuracy.
- Computer proficiency: Office suite, advanced Excel.
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of ASFC systems beyond basics (GCRA) and related government processes.
- Experience working with CBSA and customs brokers in the transportation/manufacturing sector.
