About the Role
The Specialist Software Engineer - Controls Engineer leads a small software engineering team to support design, implementation, and system integration of control systems for power conversion equipment in defense-related programs. Under general direction from Software Engineering Management, you will apply advanced methods to solve complex technical problems and deliver end-to-end solutions from design through product integration, with travel to customer sites as needed. What You'll Do

Perform control systems analysis of power conversion equipment and system architectures.

Support development of control systems design and architectures for new products.

Design and implement customer specifications and requirements for control systems design.

Write product and test specifications, modeling, and verification procedures for control systems.

Implement and support control system design with MATLAB, Simulink, C/C++, and other embedded system programming languages.

Lead a small software engineering team to support all stages of product development from design through implementation and system integration under minimal supervision.

Travel up to 35% to on-site customer locations for support and field validation.

Maintain focus on continuous improvement of technical approaches to maximize efficiency of engineering resources. What We're Looking For

BS in Electrical Engineering (B.S.E.E.) or equivalent; minimum 4 years of experience in design and analysis of control systems for power conversion equipment.

MS or advanced degree preferred, with reduced minimum experience (2+ years); PhD or higher may be considered in lieu of professional work experience.

Ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance (secret) per program requirements.

Familiarity with control systems for power system architectures and power conversion equipment; strong knowledge of control theory; ability to model with MATLAB/SIMULINK.

Experience in practical implementation of control system algorithms.

Experience in digital signal processing, machine-to-machine communications, and fiber optic-based communications subsystems.

Experience with RS-232, RS-485, and Ethernet communication protocols.

Proficiency in C and C++ programming; Python or C# beneficial.

Strong communication and teamwork skills; ability to work with cross-disciplinary teams (Power, Digital/Analog, System, Software, and Mechanical Engineers).

Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret/security clearance. Nice to Have

Knowledge of power electronics and analog circuits.

Experience developing military products.

Knowledge of digital and microcomputer circuits.

Experience in embedded real-time systems design.

Salary: California range $105,500 - $180,000 per year (USD).
