About the Role We are seeking a Special Education Assistant to support students with disabilities under the supervision of special education teachers within Memphis-Shelby County Schools. The role focuses on assisting instruction and maintaining a well-organized, smoothly functioning classroom environment, including preparing instructional materials, setting up activities, supervising students, and reinforcing classroom lessons. What You'll Do
- Assist special education teachers in instructing and supervising students with disabilities.
- Prepare instructional materials and set up classrooms for activities.
- Supervise and assist students in the classroom and in other areas of the school, reinforcing lessons.
- Provide other assistance as requested and coordinate related projects or programs as assigned.
- Work under direct supervision according to established procedures. What We're Looking For
- Education: Associate's degree or two years of college (minimum 48 semester hours) or passing ParaPro assessment; degree equivalency policies may apply.
- Experience: One year of experience working with children in an educational setting preferred.
- Certifications: CPR and First Aid certification required or obtainable.
- Proof of education, training, and/or experience required. Nice to Have
- Experience working with students with disabilities.
- Ability to coordinate special projects or programs. Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $18-$26 per hour (USD).
