Software Systems Engineer for Satellite Software (m/f/d)

We develop distributed on-board software for the next generation of satellites. Almost every aspect of a modern satellite depends on software. Software turns mission objectives into behaviour: it controls the spacecraft, connects its equipment, manages data, handles failures and enables autonomous operation far beyond the reach of immediate human intervention. As a Software Systems Engineer, you will shape this behaviour before it becomes architecture and code. You will translate operational needs and system-level requirements into a clear, consistent and verifiable Software

Requirements

• Baseline. Working with system, software and verification engineers, you will use requirements, scenarios and models to establish a shared understanding of the intended behaviour.

• Your Tasks

• Understand the intent behind operational concepts, stakeholder

• needs and system requirements

• Develop and maintain top-level requirements for the spacecraft

• software system

• Structure complex behaviour into functions, interfaces, modes,

• scenarios and data flows

• Define interactions between distributed processors, avionics

• units, payloads and ground systems

• Use behavioural and interface models to test assumptions and

• identify gaps

• Maintain traceability from system requirements to software

• architecture and verification

• Bring the relevant disciplines together to resolve unclear,

• conflicting or changing requirements

• Support the refinement of the

• Baseline into

• detailed software specifications

• Your Qualifications

• A degree in computer science, software engineering, electrical

• engineering, aerospace engineering or a related discipline

• Several years of experience in embedded software, distributed software

• architecture or software-intensive systems engineering with a good

• understanding of hardware/software interaction

• Practical experience with requirements-based verification

• The ability to structure complex technical information and

• express it through requirements, scenarios or models

• An interest in working across system, software and verification

• disciplines

• A strong focus on quality, as well as excellent teamwork and

• communication skills, combined with a passion for your work

• Very good written and spoken English

• Useful Additional Experience

• Experience in some of the following areas would be helpful, but we do not expect you to bring all of them:

• Requirements engineering for spacecraft, avionics or other

• regulated embedded systems; ECSS, DO-178 or comparable engineering and

• assurance processes

• Requirements management with DOORS, DOORS NextGen, Polarion or

• a comparable tool

• Behavioural modelling with SysML, UML, Capella, state machines

• or sequence diagrams

• Interface specification and end-to-end analysis for distributed

• systems

• Fault detection, isolation and recovery, redundancy or

• degraded-mode operation

• Real-time operating systems and on-board communication

• technologies

• Knowledge of German

• You will initially work on defined areas of

• a requirements baseline coordinated by an experienced lead engineer. You will

• receive support in learning our space-specific methods, tools and processes,

• and can progressively take responsibility for larger areas of the spacecraft

• software specification.
