About this role

Software System Designer

What You Will Be Doing

We're looking for a motivated, recent-graduate software engineer to join our team. You'll work closely with a small group to prototype new ideas, turn concepts into working proofs, and find opportunities to apply AI within a software engineering organization — all in service of higher software quality and a better user experience.

A passion for building quality software is paramount, paired with a strong sense of user experience. You should also bring solid problem-solving skills and a working understanding of PC architecture, operating system concepts, and AI tooling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full-stack prototyping — design and build full-stack solutions (front end to back end) that turn early ideas into working proofs of concept

  • AI agent development — build and extend AI agents, including context engineering, custom skill development, and tool integration via MCP (Model Context Protocol)

  • Tooling and process improvement — enhance internal tools and processes to raise overall product quality and engineering efficiency

  • Technology exploration — collaborate with the team to evaluate new technologies and approaches, and help decide what's worth adopting

  • Impact projects — contribute to projects that measurably improve efficiency and drive innovation across the organization

  • Who We Are Looking For

  • Recent graduate (or graduating within the next academic term) with a Bachelor's degree, preferably in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field

  • Solid programming/scripting fundamentals: proficiency in Python is required; experience with JavaScript frameworks (ReactJS, Node.js) and SQL is a strong plus

  • Comfortable working with Git and standard version-control workflows

  • Working knowledge of PC architecture and operating system concepts (processes, memory, I/O)

  • Exposure to agentic AI workflows or AI developer tools (e.g., Claude, Copilot, or similar) is a plus

  • Hands-on experience building or troubleshooting PCs, and/or software QA experience, is a plus

  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills, with the reading comprehension to work from technical specs and documentation

  • Benefits offered are described: AMD benefits at a glance.

  • AMD does not accept unsolicited resumes from headhunters, recruitment agencies, or fee-based recruitment services. AMD and its subsidiaries are equal opportunity, inclusive employers and will consider all applicants without regard to age, ancestry, color, marital status, medical condition, mental or physical disability, national origin, race, religion, political and/or third-party affiliation, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, military or veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. • AMD may use Artificial Intelligence to help screen, assess or select applicants for this position. AMD’s “Responsible AI Policy” is available here.

  • This posting is for an existing vacancy.
