About the Role Canonical's general track for Engineering Director invites leaders who can run cross-team projects spanning multiple time zones and hire and manage engineering managers and staff engineers. Canonical’s largest software products are built by multiple teams working together under a single director of engineering. After the initial interview, we discuss specific software products that would be a good fit for your interests and align with our open source-driven mission.
What You'll Do
- Lead and coordinate large-scale projects across multiple teams and time zones.
- Hire, coach, and manage engineering managers and staff engineers to build high-performing teams.
- Set the pace and direction for engineering groups to accelerate open source adoption and ensure reliable, secure deployment and development.
- Collaborate with product, design, and other directors to align engineering work with Canonical’s goals and roadmap.
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience running cross-team projects across time zones.
- Experience hiring and managing engineering managers and staff engineers.
- Strong alignment with open source values and experience in enterprise compute transformation.
- Track record of building and scaling engineering teams with top engineering talent.
