What We Do
At Goldman Sachs, our Engineers don't just make things – we make things possible. Change the world by connecting people and capital with ideas. Solve the most challenging and pressing engineering problems for our clients. Drive new businesses, redefine finance using AI, and seize opportunities at market speed.
Equities Execution Services provides liquidity and execution to institutional clients globally and is a core, stable revenue driver for the firm. We combine open-source, industry-standard, and proprietary technologies to build platforms for pricing, execution, and control across millions of transactions every day.
Equities Execution Core Engineering owns the reliability, scalability, and operational risk management of those platforms globally, spanning Cash, Futures, and Options. We build and maintain core services and platform features that reduce operational risk and improve efficiency across a large-scale global plant. The work sits where software engineering meets trade execution, client service, and compliance.
Who We Look For
Engineers who pair strong software engineering skills with genuine interest in the business — the execution products we offer clients, and the market structures in the capital markets of the regions we operate in. They care about the quality of what they ship, actively seek out how their products are used, and use that to make them better.
By combining an interest in financial markets with hands-on engineering, you will directly influence, design, and implement enhancements to our electronic trading offering.
We look for creative, collaborative engineers who thrive in fast-paced environments and bring:
- Strong software engineering fundamentals
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Drive and ownership
- A bias toward automation and system efficiency
- Clear communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- A habit of questioning manual processes and replacing them
How You Will Fulfil Your Potential
- Design, build, and run core services that underpin the reliability and scalability of our global execution platforms across Cash, Futures, and Options.
- Identify sources of operational risk in the plant and engineer them out — through better tooling, automation, and platform design.
- Work directly with client coverage and trading desk teams to understand how our products are used in practice and turn that into platform improvements.
- Own your services end to end, from requirements and design through testing and release.
- Partner with compliance, client service, and trade execution colleagues to deliver changes that hold up under real trading conditions.
- Replace manual processes with durable, automated solutions that scale across regions.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or a related technical field
- 3+ years of professional experience in a Software Engineering, SRE, Production Engineering, or DevOps role
- Proficiency in at least one object-oriented programming language (e.g., Java, C++) and one scripting language (e.g., Python, Bash)
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- A user-centred approach — you will work alongside client coverage and trading desk teams to understand how your products are used, and you should want that input
- Willingness to work across the full software development life cycle — requirements gathering with users, design, development, QA testing, and production release.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or a related technical field
- Knowledge of equity markets and execution platforms.
- Designing and building secure, distributed, scalable systems and REST web services in Java, C++, or another object-oriented language, using service-oriented or microservice architectures (e.g., Spring, Hibernate)
- Building low-latency, high-availability services capable of dealing with high throughput
- End-to-end testing of high-volume, low-latency real-time systems using frameworks such as JUnit or Mockito
- Relational databases (IBM DB2, Oracle, MySQL) and NoSQL stores (MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis)
- JavaScript frameworks such as React or Angular
- CI/CD and infrastructure tooling such as Terraform
- Distributed systems and cloud architectures (AWS, GCP)
- Computer networks and communication protocols
- Build and collaboration tooling such as Gradle, Maven, Git, Confluence, or JIRA
