Job title: Software Engineer, Short Term Technology
About the Role We are looking for a Java Back-End Developer to join PIMCO's Short-Term Desk Technology team. - Develop new functionality while evolving existing components with clean, maintainable, well-tested code
- Apply TDD, good CI/CD practices, and strong engineering standards
- Contribute to cloud modernization by building containerized, cloud-ready services; work with AWS services (Lambda, EKS, RDS, S3, MSK)
- Improve observability through metrics, tracing, and logging
- Use applied AI tooling (GitHub Copilot, MCP servers, and LLMs) to accelerate development and testing
- Collaborate directly with portfolio managers, traders, and operations to deliver high-impact solutions
- Translate front-office workflows into robust, performant technical designs; participate in migrating away from legacy environments toward AWS

- Familiarity with microservices, REST APIs, and event-driven architectures; some exposure to AWS or cloud-native concepts (containers, CI/CD, infrastructure as code)
- Interest or experience in using AI tools to boost productivity (code generation, test creation, documentation, etc.)
- A proactive mindset, eagerness to learn, and ability to work in a fast-moving front-office environment
- Strong communication skills and desire to partner closely with business users
Nice to Have
- Experience with AWS services: Lambda, EKS, RDS, S3, MSK
- Knowledge of containerization and cloud migration projects
- Familiarity with observability tooling and practices
- Experience with GitHub Copilot, MCP servers, and LLMs
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary range: $125,000 – $240,000 per year, with discretionary bonus
- Education reimbursements and ongoing training in technology, communication, and diversity & inclusion
- A collaborative, high-performance culture with opportunities to own designs from conception to production
