Job title: Software Engineer - Scam Prevention
About the Role This is a high-impact Software Engineer role within Wise's Scam Prevention team, focused on protecting customers from financial crime through scalable backend and frontend systems.
What You'll Do
- Build and refine critical controls to prevent Wise customers from scams.
- Drive backend and frontend for scam prevention and detection systems (about 80% backend, 20% frontend).
- Deliver tangible real-world impact by securing customers' money and accelerating product growth through automation.
What We're Looking For
- Professional experience with Java or other JVM languages, including Spring.
- Experience building scalable web applications handling large traffic; frontend with React, JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Experience designing/operating CI/CD pipelines; distributed and concurrent systems.
- Strong product mindset, accountability, and ability to drive projects independently with data-driven decisions.
- Experience with relational and non-relational databases; query optimization; resilient schemas.
- Excellent communication across teams (Product, Data Science, Investigations).
- Commitment to TDD and best coding practices.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with ML lifecycle (data pipelines, feature engineering, deploying ML systems).
Compensation & Benefits
- Starting salary: £87,500 - £111,000 per year.
