About this role
About the Role Canonical is building a new generation of Ubuntu-based container images to simplify open-source application deployment across the world. As a Software Engineer focused on Python and container images, you will contribute to the design, development and optimization of these images for performance, security and usability.
What You'll Do
- Develop and maintain Python tooling and components used to build and validate Ubuntu-based container images.
- Collaborate with distributed teams across the Canonical network to ship secure, high-performance container images.
- Write tests, contribute to CI/CD pipelines, and optimize build times and image size.
- Help ensure long-term security commitments for container images and assist in release engineering.
What We're Looking For
- Strong proficiency in Python and scripting.
- Experience with container technologies (Docker, OCI images) and container image workflows.
- Familiarity with Ubuntu and open-source software ecosystems.
- Excellent collaboration in a globally distributed team; strong written and verbal communication.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Kubernetes, CI/CD tooling, and image security scanning.
- Familiarity with Python packaging, PEP 8, and modern Python tooling.
