About the Role Canonical is building teams to bring the best open source networking software to market in a well-integrated and opinionated stack. This Office Based role in Beijing focuses on interfaces between hardware ASICs for acceleration and software for innovation and control within a data center networking stack.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate with networking silicon providers to optimize Ubuntu and related applications for their ASICs, boards and appliances.
- Contribute to open source networking components and integrations across the stack, including routing, kernel networking, eBPF, DNS, firewalls and load balancers.
- Work across bare metal, virtualization, container and serverless environments using technologies such as OVN/OVS, Cilium, DPDK, P4, OpenFlow and SwitchDev.
- Help design and deliver a complete open source stack for data center networking, addressing IoT networking as needed.
- Engage with Canonical's multi-interview selection process and collaborate with a team that values academic excellence and engineering rigor.
What We're Looking For
- Outstanding software engineer with a strong passion for networking.
- Interest in the interface of hardware ASICs for acceleration and software for control.
- Experience or exposure to open switch initiatives such as SoNIC and DENT, and upstream work on routing, kernel networking, eBPF, DNS, firewalls and load balancers.
- Excellent academic results or a track record of high-quality technical work.
- Willingness to work onsite in Beijing and collaborate with hardware vendors and open source communities.
Nice to Have
- Experience with open switch initiatives such as SoNIC and DENT (preferred).
- Experience upstream with routing, kernel networking, eBPF, DNS, firewalls and load balancers.
- Familiarity with OVN/OVS, Cilium, DPDK, SwitchDev, P4, OpenFlow, and related networking stacks.
