Job Summary

NetApp is seeking a Software Engineer 4 to join our Engineering team. You will design, build, and ship high-quality software for our products and platform, owning features from architecture and implementation through testing, deployment, and operation.

You will work on distributed, cloud-native systems where performance, reliability, and security matter. You will partner with software engineers, quality engineering, SRE, security, and product teams to deliver well-designed, well-tested features and to continuously improve the quality of our codebase and engineering practices.

As a senior technical contributor, you will drive design decisions, set engineering standards, mentor other engineers, and influence technical direction across multiple teams. Because we value engineers who can work across the whole delivery lifecycle, you may also contribute to build, release, and automation tooling when the team needs it.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and deliver features and services for our products and platform.
  • Own technical designs end to end, from architecture and implementation through deployment and operations.
  • Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code, and set standards through code reviews and design discussions.
  • Improve the performance, scalability, reliability, and security of our systems.
  • Lead cross-functional technical initiatives and influence direction across multiple teams.
  • Mentor engineers and help grow engineering capability on the team.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, build and release automation, and developer tooling as needed, helping reduce manual work and speed up delivery.

Required Qualifications

  • 8–12 years of professional software engineering experience, with a track record of delivering production systems.
  • Strong programming skills in one or more of Go, Python, Java, or C/C++.
  • Experience building cloud-native and distributed systems, including containers (Docker) and Kubernetes.
  • Solid grounding in software design, data structures, APIs, and testing strategies, including unit, integration, and automated testing.
  • Experience with Git workflows, including branching and merge strategies, pull request workflows, and code review best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives, mentor engineers, and influence technical direction.
  • Willingness to work on CI/CD and automation when the team’s needs require it.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps.
  • Scripting and automation in Bash, Groovy, or PowerShell.
  • Experience with Helm, infrastructure as code, or DevSecOps practices.
  • Experience with observability, performance tuning, or large-scale storage and data systems.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or related technical discipline.

  • The target salary range for this position is 170,000 - 253,000 USD. The salary offered will be determined by the candidate's location, qualifications, experience, and education and may be outside of this range. Final compensation packages are competitive and in line with industry standards, reflecting a variety of factors, and include a comprehensive benefits package. This may cover Health Insurance, Life Insurance, Retirement or Pension Plans, Paid Time Off (PTO), various Leave options, Performance-Based Incentives, employee stock purchase plan, and/or restricted stocks (RSU’s), with all offerings subject to regional variations and governed by local laws, regulations, and company policies. Benefits may vary by country and region, and further details will be provided as part of the recruitment process.

  • At NetApp, we embrace a hybrid working environment designed to strengthen connection, collaboration, and culture for all employees. This means that most roles will have some level of in-office and/or in-person expectations, which will be shared during the recruitment process.
