About this role
About the Role The future of software development is autonomous, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) is building Kiro, a frontier developer tool that tackles development tasks autonomously, maintains context, and learns from its work. You will shape this transformation by solving novel problems at the intersection of AI and software engineering, building fast, reliable tooling that integrates with developers' workflows, and upholding AWS's standards for scale and security.
What You'll Do
- Shape the technical direction and architecture of Kiro, translating real-world challenges into product capabilities in partnership with customers.
- Build and operate production systems using industry-leading CI/CD practices to ensure reliability and performance.
- Work across the full lifecycle—from architecture decisions about session/state/context management to hands-on feature development that makes software creation faster.
- Focus on responsiveness, ergonomics, and cross-platform behavior to deliver a developer tool that feels great to use, while balancing innovation with operational excellence and security.
- Opportunity from day one to lead projects, define technical direction, or shape team operations, and collaborate through code reviews and mentorship.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one programming language
- 5+ years leading design or architecture of new or existing systems
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or leading an engineering team
- Ability to build with CI/CD in production environments; strong understanding of reliability and scalability
- Experience with command-line/terminal tools and cross-platform UX, performance, and responsiveness
- Customer-obsessed mindset and strong collaboration and communication
Nice to Have
- 5+ years of full software development lifecycle experience (coding standards, code reviews, source control, build, testing, operations)
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Experience building developer tools or CLI-based tooling is a plus
