About the Role
Join BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee as a Software Engineer – Integrations on the Enterprise Services API Support team. You will build and support enterprise APIs that connect critical applications across the organization, collaborating across the full API lifecycle from design to production while supporting deployments and incident response. The role emphasizes reliability, scalability, and continuous improvement of API performance and platform health, with a focus on IBM ACE and API Connect.
What You'll Do
- Formulates and defines system scope and objectives through research and fact-finding to design, develop, modify, or integrate complex information systems.
- Devises or modifies application systems and procedures to optimize functional requirements including capacity, operating time, response time, and form of desired results.
- Designs, codes, tests, debugs, and documents programs, subroutines, and scripts.
- May serve one or more project team roles (project lead, business systems analyst, or technical lead) for small to medium efforts or manage phases of medium to large efforts.
- Maintains technical skill set for software languages, databases, platforms, operating systems, utilities and networks needed to support work assignments.
- Responds to system failures and performance events by taking appropriate measures to reduce downtime and prevent recurrence.
- Regularly provides guidance and training to less-experienced analysts/programmers.
- Note: This role includes participation in an on-call rotation (one full week approximately every six weeks) and after-hours deployment activities.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience (4 years in a corporate environment).
- Experience: 3 years – Systems and programming experience; 1 year – IT concepts, development methodology, terminology, and standards; 1 year – Expert working knowledge of at least one programming language in use at BCBST.
- Skills/Certifications: Proven technical background with a history of designing and documenting integration solutions, ensuring interoperability, security, and performance. Proficient in programming languages and tools relevant to integration and application development. Experienced in API design, development, and management. Proven analysis, design, and coding skills, and demonstrated success in leading large and complex projects. Demonstrated ability to interpret and translate technical concepts into information meaningful to project team members and/or business personnel. Be organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple tasks with exceptional work ethic. Leadership skills: Must be able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical co-workers.
- Experience within the healthcare industry is preferred and will help you quickly add value in this environment.
- Microsoft Office Suite proficiency, including Microsoft Teams, and ability to manage multiple assignments.
