Job Description
Build reliability into critical platforms that power our business—automating away toil and improving customer outcomes. Join us to grow your impact across cloud engineering, automation, and observability.
Job summary
As a Site Reliability Engineer III at JPMorgan Chase within Corporate Technology, you solve complex and broad problems with simple, straightforward solutions that improve service availability, reliability, and scalability. You configure, maintain, monitor, and optimize applications and their cloud infrastructure while we support you with collaborative teammates and opportunities to grow your skills. You help us continuously improve how we operate by sharing knowledge and strengthening engineering practices across the team.
Job responsibilities
- Design and implement deployment and reliability approaches using automated continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines, partnering with engineers across teams.
- Build and maintain cloud infrastructure, configuration, and networking as code for applications and platforms you support.
- Enhance observability through white-box and black-box monitoring, telemetry collection, and service level objective alerting.
- Analyze service health using service level indicators and service level objectives to identify and resolve complex issues before they impact customers.
- Participate in on-call incident response, triage, and post-incident analysis, documenting findings and remediation actions to prevent recurrence.
- Automate or eliminate recurring operational issues to reduce toil and improve overall operational stability, proactively identifying roadblocks and exploring new technologies where appropriate.
- Use enterprise-authorized AI capabilities to accelerate incident triage, troubleshooting, and post-incident analysis, validating outputs and handling operational data according to sensitivity and security requirements while sharing knowledge through internal forums and communities of practice and promoting site reliability engineering best practices.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Formal training or certification on site reliability engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience.
- Foundational understanding of site reliability engineering culture and principles, including service level indicators and service level objectives.
- General observability and monitoring understanding with working experience using industry-standard tooling (e.g., Grafana, Dynatrace, Prometheus, Datadog, Splunk, CloudWatch).
- Proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language such as Python, Bash, or similar for tool development and operational support.
- Experience with incident and response management, including on-call participation and structured post-incident review.
- Knowledge of continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines and best practices using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar, plus skills in automating repetitive tasks and managing configurations at scale using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or similar.
- Familiarity with container technologies and container orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), including working knowledge of using enterprise-authorized AI capabilities to support site reliability engineering workflows with strong validation habits, awareness of data sensitivity, and the ability to validate AI-assisted operational recommendations before applying changes, escalating when uncertain and following data sensitivity requirements.
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Experience operating in cloud environments (e.g., AWS), including resiliency, scalability, and observability patterns, plus experience with service mesh, load balancing, and DNS troubleshooting (e.g., ALB/NLB, Route 53).
- Familiarity with Kubernetes ingress, networking, and certificate deployment patterns.
- Experience improving infrastructure-as-code patterns (e.g., Terraform modules, reusable configurations).
- Understanding of controls-focused operations in regulated environments, including change management discipline and audit support, along with strong communication skills to collaborate across stakeholder groups and a drive to self-educate and evaluate emerging technologies in the site reliability engineering and cloud-native space.
