Job title: Software Engineer - Cross-platform C++ - Multipass
About the Role Canonical is hiring a Software Engineer specializing in cross-platform C++ for Multipass. You will help build and improve the open-source developer experience for the Multipass workstation mini-cloud, providing Ubuntu and appliance VMs on demand for build, test and prototyping. This role is home-based within the EMEA region.
What You'll Do
- Develop and maintain cross-platform C++ features for Multipass on Windows and macOS.
- Collaborate with the Multipass team to deliver a robust, high-performance developer experience.
- Contribute to open-source code, tests, and documentation; fix bugs and improve CI.
- Work with virtualization concepts and VM image provisioning to support on-demand Ubuntu appliances.
What We're Looking For
- Deep C++ skills with strong knowledge of cross-platform development (Windows and macOS).
- Experience contributing to open-source projects and collaborating in distributed teams.
- Ability to work remotely and communicate effectively within an international team.
- Passion for developer tooling and open-source software.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with Multipass, Ubuntu, and virtualization concepts.
- Experience with cloud/VM environments, CI/CD, and scripting languages.
- Knowledge of Qt, scripting (Python, Bash) or related tooling.
