About the Role Join Vercel's Persistence team within the Compute division to help run and evolve the storage and state for all workloads (Builds, Sandboxes, Functions). You will contribute to low-level compute primitives and platform features that support hundreds of instances deployed across regions, delivering speed, reliability, and a great developer experience. The role is based in London, with in-office anchor days if you are nearby, and fully remote options for those further afield in the UK. What You'll Do
- Manage and improve our fleet of clusters, running hundreds of instances in every region where customers deploy code.
- Write Golang daily and use Terraform to provision infrastructure; leverage Nomad as our scheduler for workloads.
- Rethink infrastructure primitives, working with virtual filesystems, Linux primitives, and low-level virtualization.
- Own the reliability and performance of our compute platform, including on-call coverage with outsized impact at scale.
- Collaborate across teams to converge compute at Vercel. What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, with Golang strongly preferred.
- Deep experience with virtual machines, file systems and Linux; you like knowing how things work under the hood.
- Experience building and operating distributed systems at scale; design for performance and reliability.
- Experience with schedulers and orchestrators for managing containers and non-containerised workloads (e.g., Nomad, Kubernetes).
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, with a genuine enthusiasm for digging into challenging problems. Nice to Have
- Have worked on low-level virtualisation or sandbox execution environments.
- Product engineering experience and care about developer-facing impact of infrastructure decisions.
