Job title: Software Engineer

About the Role Joining MPG at Climax Studios as a fully remote Software Engineer. You’ll work with backend engineers across MPG to deliver, deploy and integrate backend services for world-class multiplayer game projects with external co-dev partners. Based in the UK or EU, you’ll help design scalable systems, write robust code, and collaborate to define solutions that meet demanding timelines, while enjoying a people-first, flexible work environment.

What You'll Do

  • Construct systems, write code, deployments, and maintain backend services for multiplayer games.
  • Work with the team lead and stakeholders to estimate and prioritise work.
  • Collaborate with peers to iterate on solutions that fit requirements.
  • Keep the project lead and producer apprised of revised estimates and delivery times.
  • Promote high standards and processes: tests, CI/CD, and documentation.
  • Help and support team members in day-to-day work.
  • Understand, maintain and expand existing code; develop new features or systems.
  • Adapt to new tools, languages and project requirements; leverage Kubernetes, Docker and Terraform where applicable.
  • Collaborate with external co-dev clients to integrate backend services.
  • Explore how LLMs can be used to process and query data and support code generation.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience in game development with server backends for AAA titles or similar, supporting large numbers of concurrent users.
  • Production experience in Java, Golang, C#, C++, or Kotlin.
  • Experience with one or more cloud platforms: AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure; AWS Certification is advantageous.
  • Infrastructure as code experience (Terraform).
  • Proficient in SQL and NoSQL databases; solving distributed data challenges.
  • Experience building distributed applications and microservices; SOA mindset; Kubernetes and Docker.
  • Experience with Git, Perforce, or other version control systems; CI/CD pipelines.
  • Ability to learn new tools, languages and concepts quickly; strong documentation and design skills.
  • Clear communicator with the ability to verbalise ideas and accept constructive critique.
  • Familiarity with how to use LLMs to process and query data.
  • Gen AI for code generation.

Nice to Have

  • AWS Certification (Associate or above) is welcomed and supported.
