About this role

Software Development Engineer II, Data Nexus

Description

  • Are you excited about working on next-generation, Amazon-scale serverless technologies?

  • We are looking for talented software engineers to help define and drive the next evolution of developer productivity at Amazon. Our mission is to harness the power of modern programming languages, leverage advancements in generative AI, and integrate seamlessly with the low-latency, high-throughput serverless runtimes that power Amazon's infrastructure.

  • As part of the Builder Foundations organization - the core platform behind Amazon's eCommerce business - your work will impact millions of customers using services like Kindle, Prime, Instant Video, Fulfillment, Alexa, and Amazon's global online shopping experience.

  • Key job responsibilities

  • Design and implement software features and improvements across major portions of your team's systems, balancing functional requirements with scalability, performance, and security considerations.

  • Contribute across the full software development lifecycle, including working backwards from customer needs, system design, coding, testing, deployment, and operational support.

  • Evaluate and integrate generative artificial intelligence tools where appropriate to augment productivity and code quality, applying responsible practices to refine outputs.

  • Mentor and coach fellow engineers through code reviews and technical discussions, raising the quality bar for your team's software and documentation.

  • Identify root causes of operational issues and drive permanent fixes, while proactively recommending improvements to your team's technical processes and systems.

  • A day in the life

  • You will start your day reviewing code from teammates, offering constructive feedback that helps raise the bar for the entire team. From there, you might dive into designing a new feature, writing and testing code, or collaborating with stakeholders to clarify requirements and refine your approach. You will regularly participate in design discussions, troubleshoot production issues when they arise, and document your software so that others can maintain and extend it with confidence.

  • About the team

  • Our team is focused on building reliable, scalable software that directly serves our customers. We value collaboration, clear communication, and a commitment to getting the details right. Engineers here have the opportunity to take on meaningful projects, grow their technical skills, and shape how our systems evolve over time. We are looking for people who are curious, thoughtful, and ready to make an impact alongside a supportive group of colleagues.
