POST: Social Worker (Warrant Officer) LOCATION: Provincial Human Resource Management, Employee Health and Wellness, Northern Cape LEVEL OF REMUNERATION: BAND B1 R385 740 per annum REFERENCES: NCEHW 1/6/2026 (1 post) RE-ADVERTISMENT
Requirements
- Be in possession of a Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or National Certificate (Vocational)
- recorded on the National Learner Record Database (NLRD) on at least NQF level 4.
- Applicants must be in possession of a four (4) year Degree in Social Work (accredited by
- SAQA on NQF Level 7 or higher).
- Registration as a Social Worker with the South African Council for Social Services
- Professions (SACSSP) and submit proof of paid-up fees and valid registration for
- 2026/2027 financial year.
- Applicants must display competency in post-specific core functions of the advertised post.
- Be fluent in at least two official languages of which one must be English.
- Be in possession of a valid motor vehicle driver’s license.
- Be a citizen of the Republic of South Africa of which documentary proof must be furnished
- during interview.
- Applicants must be willing to work under pressure as well as work extended hours.
- Applicants must have interpersonal communication (verbal and written).
- Must have no previous criminal / departmental convictions or criminal / departmental cases
- pending.
- Must not have any tattoo marks which will be visible when wearing any uniform of the
- Service.
- Applicants will be subjected to a vetting process which will include security screening and
- fingerprint verification.
Knowledge, Skills and Competency:
- Extensive knowledge of relevant legislation and policies.
- Must be prepared to work in a multi-disciplinary team and be able to market Social Work
- Services.
- Successful candidate must be willing to travel and attend courses when required. Two (2)
- years of social work experience within substance abuse, gender-based violence and
- generic wellness environment will serve as an advantage. Facilitation/presentation skills as
- well as Supervision/Management experience will serve as an added advantage. Must be
- able to work in a diverse group, have good interpersonal communication, monitoring and
- evaluation, report writing, problem solving, conflict resolution and computer skills (MS
- Word, MS Power Point and MS Office Outlook).
Core Functions:
- Render advanced and complex social work services work-focus assessments.
- Render comprehensive occupational social work services to the client system by means of
- social work services’ capacity building programmes (promotive- and workplace
- interventions).
- Render comprehensive occupational social work services to the client system by means of
- restorative interventions.
- Render comprehensive occupational social work services to the client system by means of
- application of Social Work Community Model.
- Compile and submit feedback report per social work programme presented.
- Facilitate and observe health and wellness events.
- Work within a multi-disciplinary Employee Health and Wellness team.
- Improve the mental well-being of members by providing psycho-social, emotional, personal
- and work-related interventions.

- cases and shall allow their fingerprints to be taken and background enquiries to be made.
- Short-listed candidates may be subjected to a full security clearance process before or
- during any stage of employment.
- Short-listed candidates will be subjected to a vetting process which will include security
- screening, fingerprint screening, reference checking and verification of address, where
- necessary.
- All short-listed candidates, including the SMS, may be expected to undergo a personal
- interview and shall undertake two pre-entry assessments, (a) a practical exercise to
- determine a candidate’s suitability based on the post’s technical and generic requirements,
- as well as (b) an integrity assessment (ethical conduct).
- Short-listed candidates for appointments to certain identified posts will be vetted in terms
- of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act, 2007 (Act No
- 32 of 2007) and the Children’s Act, 2005 (Act No 38 of 2005). A candidate whose
- particulars appear in either the National Register for Sex Offenders or Part B of the Child
- Protection Register, will be disqualified from appointment.
- Candidates are expected to disclose if he/ she is a respondent in an interim or final
- protection order in terms of the Domestic Violence Act, 1998 (Act no 116 of 1998) or
- Protection from Harassment Act, 2011 (Act No 17 of 2011), and may be disqualified from
- appointment.
- The Criminal Law (Forensic Procedures) Amendment Act, Act 37 of 2013 requires that all
- new appointments in the South African Police Service as from 31 January 2015 provide a
- buccal (inside cheek) sample to determine their forensic DNA profile. The forensic DNA
- profile derived from the sample will be loaded to the Elimination Index of the National
- Forensic DNA Database.
- Appointments will be made in terms of the South African Police Service Act, 1995 (Act No
- 68 of 1995).
- Persons who retired from the Public Service by taking a severance package, early
- retirement or medical retirement, as well as persons with previous convictions, are
- excluded.
- Applicants who are currently not appointed in terms of the SAPS Act will be expected to
- undergo medical assessment by a medical practitioner, before appointment, and must be
- found to be medically and psychologically fit.
- Police Act members may be subjected to practical assessment.
- Applicants must comply with SAPS Dress Order prescripts, whereby they must not have
- any tattoo marks which will be visible when wearing any uniform of the Service.
- Incumbents appointed in terms of the SAPS Act will be expected to undergo Introductory
- Police Development Learning Programme at a SAPS academy determined by National
- Commissioner and will be expected to maintain the required minimum fitness level for
- SAPS Act members throughout his/ her service in SAPS.
