About the Role
- We are seeking a Social Media & Community Management Intern to support the growth and engagement of BizGrowthAfrica (BGA), a Pan-African platform serving entrepreneurs, startups, and SMEs with business insights, opportunities, resources, and ecosystem access.
- The Social Media & Community Management Intern will support the day-to-day management and growth of BizGrowthAfrica's social media platforms and online community.
- The role combines social media publishing, content support, community management, audience engagement, campaign execution, and basic performance reporting. The intern will work closely with the Communications Team to ensure that BGA's content is published consistently, its audience is actively engaged, and community interactions are handled promptly and professionally.
- This role is ideal for an NYSC member who understands social media beyond simply creating and publishing posts and is interested in building experience in digital communications, community management, content marketing, and audience growth.
Responsibilities
Social Media Management:
- Schedule and publish approved content across BGA's social media platforms.
- Ensure content is published according to the approved content calendar.
- Maintain consistency with BGA's brand voice, visual identity, and communication guidelines.
- Assist in organizing and maintaining the social media content calendar.
- Monitor platform activity and flag important trends, conversations, or issues.
Community Management:
- Support engagement across the BGA community and digital platforms.
- Respond promptly and professionally to comments, direct messages, enquiries, and other community interactions.
- Encourage conversations, discussions, and participation among community members.
- Identify frequently asked questions, concerns, and feedback from the community and escalate them where necessary.
- Maintain a positive and professional community environment.
- Support engagement activities designed to increase participation and retention within the BGA community.
Content Support:
- Assist with preparing captions, short-form copy, and supporting content for social media.
- Support the formatting and uploading of content across BGA's digital platforms.
- Research relevant business, entrepreneurship, startup, funding, and ecosystem trends that may inform content.
- Identify relevant social media trends and recommend opportunities for BGA to participate in them appropriately.
- Support content repurposing across different social media platforms.
- Assist with digital coverage of webinars, events, campaigns, and other BGA activities.
Campaign and Audience Growth Support:
- Support the execution of social media campaigns and promotional activities.
- Assist in promoting BGA opportunities, resources, events, newsletters, and platform offerings.
- Suggest creative ideas for increasing reach, engagement, community participation, and audience growth.
- Support initiatives aimed at converting social media audiences into active BGA community members and platform users.
Performance Reporting:
- Monitor basic social media performance metrics.
- Track audience growth, reach, engagement, and other relevant indicators.
- Compile weekly and monthly social media performance reports.
- Identify high-performing and low-performing content and share observations with the Communications Team.
- Support the team in using performance insights to improve future content.
General Support:

Collaborate with the Communications Team, Editorial Team, and other relevant teams on BGA activities.

Support digital campaigns, webinars, online events, and community initiatives.

Carry out other communication-related tasks assigned by the department.

Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good understanding of major social media platforms.
- Basic understanding of social media management and content planning.
- Good community engagement and interpersonal skills.
- Basic knowledge of Canva or similar content creation tools.
- Good organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work with content calendars and meet publishing deadlines.
- Basic ability to interpret social media analytics.
- Creativity and willingness to learn.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace is an advantage.
Nice to Have:
- Experience managing a personal, organisational, or community social media page.
- Familiarity with Meta Business Suite or other social media scheduling tools.
- Basic graphic design or video editing skills.
- Experience managing online communities, WhatsApp groups, LinkedIn communities, or similar platforms.
- Interest or experience in business, entrepreneurship, startups, grants, or development.
- Basic knowledge of social media analytics and reporting.
