Job title: Social Media and Digital Specialist
About the Role The Social Media and Digital Specialist will own Nelson University’s day-to-day social media presence, developing content across platforms, including copywriting, photography, video, and basic graphic design. The role supports the VP for Marketing & PR in executing digital marketing initiatives and measuring performance. It is a hands-on role focused on content development, audience engagement, and data-driven optimization.
What You'll Do
- Execute the university’s official social media presence across platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, X/Twitter, LinkedIn) and curate/original posts with copywriting, photography, graphics, and video.
- Monitor channels daily and respond to questions/comments in timely, brand-appropriate manner.
- Maintain brand standards across accounts; collaborate with internal departments to ensure messaging is accurate and on-brand.
- Support digital advertising and campaign execution; maintain relationships with advertising partners and listing sites; research opportunities.
- Establish and track KPIs; analyze performance; prepare reports; support data-informed decisions; assist leadership in budget allocation.
- Collaborate with department leaders; recruit/train/manage a student social ambassador team and student workers for campus engagement.

- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, Business, or related field.
- 1 - 2 years of professional experience in marketing or digital communications.
- Demonstrated hands‑on experience managing social media channels for an organization or brand.
- Strong writing and editing skills with attention to voice, tone, and accuracy.
- Experience with content creation tools such as Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience working with social media management and publishing platforms.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines in a collaborative environment.
- Strong communication skills and comfort engaging with diverse audiences.
Nice to Have
- 3+ years of professional experience in marketing or digital communications.
- Experience creating digital content, including graphics, photography, and/or video.
- Experience working with content calendars and campaign planning.
- Familiarity with project management tools such as Asana.
- Experience managing or supporting interns, student workers, or ambassadors.
- Familiarity with higher education, nonprofit, or mission‑driven organizations.
- Experience collaborating with cross‑functional teams (e.g., marketing, admissions, IT).
