About this role

Helix Retreat Snail Production & Farm Development Officer

Location: Asaba, Delta

Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

  • We are seeking a highly motivated, passionate, and tech-savvy Snail Production & Farm Development Officer to take full ownership of daily farm operations. This is not a casual role.
  • We need someone who treats this farm as their primary professional focus, lives on-site, and is obsessed with solving problems before they become losses.
  • If you are a farmer at heart who understands that snails are not just livestock but a delicate microclimate-dependent production system, this role is for you.

Key Responsibilities

Snail Health, Breeding & Mortality Management:

  • Oversee the daily care of all snails across all growth stages (hatchlings, juveniles, growers, breeders).
  • Implement and monitor strict environmental controls to maintain optimal temperature (25–30°C) and humidity (75–95%) at all times.
  • Identify early warning signs of stress, disease, or mortality and act immediately — not the next day.
  • Manage breeding cycles to maximize egg production and hatchability.
  • Handle snail mucin extraction using our stress-free machine, ensuring animal welfare and product quality.
  • Oversee the processing of snail meat, shells (for calcium), and eggs. (Done with a bonus payment that would be discussed)

Crop Production & Feed Management (Snail Feed):

  • Plant, maintain, and harvest snail feed crops within the farm compound (e.g., ugwu, cucumber, plantain, banana, cocoyam, pawpaw, cabbage, lettuce, spinach, Moringa and other leafy vegetables).
  • Ensure a continuous, year-round supply of fresh feed, including preserving surplus crops for the dry season.
  • Manage soil fertility, mulching, and irrigation for all feed crops.
  • Monitor crop health and implement organic pest control measures where necessary.

Environmental & Greenhouse Management:

  • Monitor and regulate the greenhouse/screen house environment daily.
  • Implement microclimate modification techniques: shade cloths, misting systems, ventilation, and mulching with dried leaves to cool the environment.
  • Prevent heat buildup and ensure proper airflow to reduce snail mortality.
  • Maintain and repair greenhouse structures as needed.

Data Recording, Reporting & ERP Management:

  • Use our ERP system to log daily activities, including:
  • Temperature and humidity readings (twice daily)
  • Watering schedules (twice daily)
  • Feeding records (once daily)
  • Calcium supplementation (once or twice weekly)
  • Mortality and egg counts
  • Take and upload clear photos and videos of all farm activities, snail conditions, and crop progress.
  • Write and submit accurate daily and weekly reports via mobile phone or computer.
  • Use the internet to research best practices and troubleshoot emerging issues.

Farm Security & Supervision:

  • Supervise all farm workers and ensure they follow standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain farm security and report any unauthorized activity immediately.
  • Ensure no unauthorized persons stay overnight on the farm without express permission from the owner.
  • Live on-site in provided accommodation to respond to emergencies at any time.

Communication & Transparency:

  • Report all observations, challenges, and decisions to the owner in real time.
  • Never take major actions (e.g., culling, structural changes, chemical applications) without prior approval.
  • Communicate openly and honestly — no surprises, no procrastination.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of practical experience in snail farming or commercial livestock/agriculture production.
  • Proven knowledge of snail biology, breeding, and environmental needs.
  • Experience in crop production (vegetables, tubers, or fodder crops).
  • Must reside in or be willing to relocate to Asaba, Delta State.
  • Must own a smartphone with a working camera and be comfortable using apps for reporting.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly in English.
  • Physically fit and able to work outdoors in tropical conditions.
  • Strong work ethic, passion for farming, and a problem-solving mindset.

Preferred:

  • Experience with greenhouse or screen house management.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems or digital farm management tools.
  • Knowledge of organic farming and integrated pest management.
  • Previous experience in snail mucin extraction or processing.

What We Offer

  • Salary: N100,000 - N150,000 monthly.
  • Live-in accommodation (Optional): A room within the farm compound with 24/7 electricity.
  • Competitive salary: Based on experience, with performance-based incentives tied to mortality reduction, egg production, and crop yields and amount of slime and meat processed.
  • Professional growth: Hands-on experience in a large-scale, integrated snail production and processing operation.
  • Supportive environment: You will work directly with the owner, who is committed to investing in the right person and the right systems.

Application Closing Date

15th November, 2026.

Notes

  • In your application, please answer this question: "If you noticed the greenhouse temperature rising to 35°C at 2 PM on a Tuesday, and you had no shade cloth installed yet, what would you do immediately to save the snails?"
  • Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
