About the Role Slitting Operator Level 2 is responsible for setting up, operating, and optimizing slitting equipment to convert large rolls of packaging materials into precise widths. The role emphasizes product quality, safety, and production efficiency, and includes assisting in training less experienced operators.
What You'll Do
- Check machine settings and safety features before starting the machines, load materials, and start operations.
- Learn and follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures for Slitting equipment.
- Understand materials used in the Slitting process (plastic films, paper, foil, textiles) and how they behave during lamination.
- Operate machines that cut laminated materials into narrower strips or sizes according to customer specifications.
- Operate laminating equipment that applies adhesive or thermal bonding under heat and pressure.
- Understand different slitting methods (rotary, razor, shear) and select the appropriate method for the material.
- Perform minor repairs or adjustments (replacing blades, fixing jams, realigning machinery).
- Ensure lamination and slitting processes run at correct speed and efficiency; regularly inspect for defects.
- Start up and shut down of the assembly line and production equipment; document quality checks and production data in the computer system.
- Ensure products meet customer specifications (widths, bonding strength, surface appearance); follow changeover processes to run different products.
- Load and unload material using hoists and mobile equipment (e.g., forklifts); assist maintenance during downtime.
What We're Looking For
- 2-4 years of hands-on experience in Lamination and Slitting or a related manufacturing environment.
- Ability to fill out production paperwork; inspect materials for quality.
- Thread film through the machine and verify it matches the required size and type.
- Troubleshoot basic Slitter issues (air pockets, folds, wrinkles).
- Adjust machine temperature, pressure, and speed as needed during lamination.
- Cut off waste materials, trim, and roll laminated materials to meet machine and quality standards.
- Observe operation of the slitting process for surface and quality defects.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and willingness to follow LOTO.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $20.50 - $24 per hour with Day shift differential $1.50 and Night shift differential $3.00; 12-hour rotating schedule (Days 7am-7pm, Nights 7pm-7am).
