About the Role

Join Johnson Controls Federal Systems as a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) supporting federal facilities in the Norfolk, VA region. You will implement the Site/Task Specific Safety Program, ensure compliance with EM 385-1-1, and lead safety initiatives to protect workers and the missions they enable. The role involves coordinating safety training, inspections, and incident investigations across multiple sites within the region. What You'll Do

  • Implement the Site/Task Specific Safety Program at the location, including creation of Task Order Site Specific Accident Prevention Plans (APP) & Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA).
  • Oversee and authorize procurement of project safety supplies and equipment; lead safety training for JCFS direct employees and subcontractors.
  • Serve as on-site competent person and SSHO as defined by EM 385-1-1; enforce safety directives per JCFS Safety Program, site-specific APPs and EM 385-1-1.
  • Conduct daily safety and health inspections; conduct mishap investigations and complete required reports; maintain OSHA Form 300; maintain safety and health deficiency tracking system until resolution; ensure subcontractor compliance.
  • Travel between various sites within the region; additional travel for startup, training, etc. as needed.
  • Provide leadership and facilitate the Office Safety Committee at the local level.
  • Own and be accountable for Safety Execution within the assigned project location.
  • Perform other related duties as required. What We're Looking For
  • 30-hour OSHA Construction Safety training within the past 5 years with ongoing safety training thereafter (8 hours per year) or ability to obtain OSHA 30 within first 30 days of employment.
  • Construction safety inspection and administration experience.
  • Five (5) or more years of continuous experience with construction safety preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to travel 25%.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances (background/character, criminal history, employment, and credit check). Nice to Have
  • Demonstrated understanding of OSHA, USACE safety regulations (EM-385-1-1), NAVFAC, ANSI, NFPA 70-E, and other State and Federal regulatory standards.
  • Experience in safety program development/implementation. Compensation & Benefits
  • Pay range: Negotiable based on experience.
  • Benefits: Eligible for benefits on first day of employment.
  • Vacation: 3 weeks of paid vacation, 5 sick days, 3 floating holidays, and 10 standard holidays per calendar year (6.5 weeks in total).
  • Travel: Norfolk, VA regional area.
